Re : Disabling update on Firefox and Chrome

Do you plan on adding browser setting templates? Especially for Firefox, which has no enterprise configuration tools. It would make it much easier to do it through Desktop Central.

With Firefox, I believe only the ESR edition lets you set global computer policies and disable updates.

Run a batch file once per computer per user

I have a batch file I want to run for new users that runs some post-setup for an application we use. I want to run it once the first time a user logs in to a computer, and never again for that user on that computer. Can I create a configuration to do that?

Hi, This is a very old post but looks relevant to what I'm looking to do now. Basically, I want to remove pagefile.sys from all of the computers in our local office.
Can you suggest how I might go about this using Desktop Central? All of my computers are running Windows 10.

Thanks,

Bill

Remote office IP Server VS Local Office IP Server

Why Desktop Central can't have different IP's for Remote offices vs Local Office..

We want to users outside of building to be able reach DC Server thru internet (aka WAN) but every time I change IP to external network it updates it on all Remote Offices to same IP.. I don't want all of them to be WAN... we have couple location that only has MPLS access to internet and by doing this it will not let them connect to server..

is there feature or work-around to get this solved?

I have this problem also.

I have put the FQDN in for the ip address.
I have not seen any issues yet with that setting, but I di notice that it changes it on all the Remote Offices.

Hi Peter G/Travis ,

Appreciate your forum post.

As of now you can only have one IP Address for all remote office and can not have different IP's. However, we have this feature in our road map list and will soon be supported.

Once it is supported, will update on email, Forum and Newsletter.

Hi,

Greetings from ManageEngine Desktop Central.

Looking forward to assist you.

FQDN Solution is something we already entertained but when you have remote offices that use local office resources in enterprise setup they share same AD and DNS Servers so they would still take MPLS route to reach the main server..FQDN would be a great solution for travelers while being away from office..hope these features get implemented soon.. i don't really want the Distributed Server route.

Hi Bill,

Thank you for revisiting this post. You can delete the files using 'File Folder Operation's configuration to cleanup the files from all the computers.  Configurations tab > Windows > File Folder Operation.

Hi Jay,

Thank you for raising the post. You can create Custom Script User configuration for User account and let user login on respective computer. While creating the configuration ensure you haven't enable 'Apply this at every logon' option.

Try the above option and check the status.

Computers being deleted the next day after joining DC

Hi,

We are having a problem DC (Build Version:10.0.91) where computers are being deleted once the client has been installed on the machine.

So when we build a computer we get this message in our admin mailbox.

As you can see from this email the machine was built on the 27/06/2017 at 3:23 and as part of the build process the DC agent gets deployed.

The next day we get this message in our admin email account.

This is only deleting the computer from DC as the computer object in AD is still there.

So have setup the DC to delete computers after 2 months.

so as you can see this, a computer shouldn't be deleted 1 day after it was built.   We don't get any emails saying that the computer hasn't been in contact.

Any idea what could be causing this issue.

Hi Mark,

Thank you for raising the post. Please check if Desktop Central Agent is added under Prohibit software list. Go to Inventory > Prohibited Software list. If yes, delete it from the list.

If not listed then please send us complete 'Agent side' logs to Support team for investigation.

Appreciate your understanding.

Feature Request Discussion: Distributed Server Repository Download

Would love to see possible feature to allow DServer to acquire needed patches from internet instead from Master Server.  Most of remote offices have fatter pipe to internet than between offices.. Not sure if this is already the case but there is no documentation about it except the bandwidth settings between sites and replication schedule.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for raising the post. As of now, downloading the patches directly to Distribution Servers from internet is not feasible. However, it is in our Roadmap. Currently, data will be replicated only from Main Desktop Central Server.

Regarding Bandwidth throttling you can configure that within Remote Control settings itself. Modify the Remote Office and specify the data transfer rate :

Limit Data Transfer Rate To : KBps

Hello,

I need to disallow all my district's students from accessing the self service portal.  Is there some way I can do this?

Possible hide the shortcut from all users in the Active Directory students group?  Or only deploy the desktop shortcut to users that are not students?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello everyone,

[ 2017-07-05 14:01:01:228 ] [ 5760 ] [ERROR] ChangeUtf8ToWideStr: utf8 is empty!
[ 2017-07-05 14:01:02:572 ] [ 5760 ] [ERROR] InitializeServerDetailsFromRegistry : Error while fetching server installed time from registry!

I can upload the detail log if will help more.

Local users on Windows Servers based on the accounts in User Management

$

Hi,

We're managing a lot of workgroup based servers (Windows OS) which don't have a central authentication solution like Active Directory.
What I'm trying to find out if Desktop Central is a solution for this. I read the feature pages and noticed that Desktop Central can manage local accounts on each individual server (or as a group of servers).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but.. when a user will change his/her password on one of the servers, it will not change on the other servers..

So is it perhaps possible that I can populate the local users on the managed servers, from the "User Administration" section (and preferably by role) and assign the appropriate permissions?
This way a user can change his/her password from the Desktop Central login page, which would then be rolled out to all the servers he/she has an account on.

Cheers,

René

Hi Chris,

Thank you for you post in our forums.

Self service portal setting is a global setting which will be applied to all the managed client machines.

Let me raise this concern to our development team as feature requirement.
