We don't have any remote offices as of right now.  I did take Romanus' suggestion and moved it to off hours and that seems to be working now.  I do appreciate the responses.

Thank you,
Frank

Hi Dmitry,

The time used for the deployment is the client machines. Based on this time, it will patch the machine.

@Frank, thanks for the update on it.

Looking forward to assist you.

Re : Set IE as default browser in Win10

Hi Roy111112,

I understand your concern.

However, It not feasible to support this feature from win 8 OS version due to the 'limitations in windows'

From Windows 8, Microsoft restricts the ability of automatically setting an app as default (be it browser or any extension). The control is completely given to the user and only when a user interaction is made in the 'Default app' setting, will make it as default.

That's the reason it's not feasible to achieve using Desktop Central. However, If this changes in the windows, then it will be supported in Desktop Central as well.

Appreciate your understanding.

It's is certainly possible to change IE as a default browser in Windows 10. We do it and also change the default PDF viewer when we deploy operating system using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit. This needs to be done during deployment of OS using dism.

Hi Cyril,

Thanks for your post in our forums.

To achieve Google Safe Search using Desktop Central, you will have to overwrite the host file using File Folder Configuration. And that seems to be the only possible way,

Please make a host file entry using the instructions from below link,
https://support.opendns.com/hc/en-us/articles/227986807-How-to-Enforcing-Google-SafeSearch-YouTube-and-Bing

And deploy the host file entry to following location : %windir%\System32\Drivers\etc.

Image for your reference,

Trust this solves. Please let me know if you have any further clarifications.

Installation on a computer scope but as a currently logged on user

Hi,

we have an application that can be only installed under the user profile.

But we cannot deploy this with a Desktop Central "per user" Installation or Custom Script, since our users logon to multiple computers within certain period.

So what I need is an Installation or  Custom Script configuration that would only be applied for a short period for a confined scope of computers (custom group) BUT has to run once as the user logs on to this computer with his/her credentials.

Any ideas how to achieve that?

Thanks for any advice!

Hi Solo,

Appreciate your forum Post.

Yes, we have this function to deploy a configuration/ Custom Script to specific machines or specific group of Users to apply only to them and apply where ever the user logs in.

In the configuration you are creating, in Define Target you need to choose the user or the custom group created for the user.

TO create custom Group, please click on Admin>>>>Custom Group for the User.

Please try this and then check.

Looking forward to assist you.

Hello Naveen,
Appreciate your help!
The custom user group could be a solution if the software was to be installed on any computer the user logs on. But this is not the case, since we have some instrument management computers.
What I need is to define a subset of computers where only a subset of users will install the software.
If I select Install/Uninstall Windows Software (User) I select the "Target User" account installation option and then under Target 1 I select Custom Group = the users’ group. But how do I confine the computers scope? I can add through the plus sign yet another Target 2, but if I select from there the computers’ Organizational Unit for example shouldn’t it try to install as the Target User = computer system account defined through this second target?
And vice versa, if I select Install/Uninstall Windows Software (Computer) I can only define the installation account either as "System User" or "Run as User", and under Target I can only select computers’ but no users’ custom groups.
Thanks

Hi Solo,

Thanks for your response. I will suggest you to try with exclude targets option so that you can add the computers or custom group in which the requested software shouldn't get installed. Its the alternative way to target the configuration to specific users with selective computers.

Hope this would help you.
