Possible to configure Desktop Central managed workstations to download patches from WSUS server?

Hello,

My apologies if my questions are clearly documented somewhere already: upon research, I have yet to discover the answers. I am new to Desktop Central and newly managing a Windows 2003 AD domain with GPOs defined for WSUS (prior to implementation of Desktop Central) and using Desktop Central 8 to manage workstation patches. Websense shows multiple instances of Desktop Central managed workstations to visit www.download.windowsupdates.com, some up to 1200x logged instances in a two week period. Our security auditor is concerned by that many visits to windowsupdates. Is that normal?

It appears that Desktop Central is a replacement or upgrade of WSUS services. Is it possible to use Desktop Central with WSUS, perhaps pointing Desktop Central managed workstations to WSUS for Windows patches? Or can Desktop Central be configured as a proxy, downloading Windows updates to a local database then serving to workstations?

Will there always be needs for Desktop Central Managed workstations to visit windowsupdates for particular OS patches and/or IE modules?

I am seeking intelligible answers to relay to our security auditor as to why so many windowsupdates attempts and if they can perhaps be eliminated. Thank you in advance for your sharing of expertise!
